Ex-employee’s suit against Fort Worth hedge fund manager goes to trial this week
After four years, the civil case of Renegade Swish versus the assistant house manager is going to trial.
In 2015, Fort Worth hedge fund manager Geoffrey Raynor, through his company Renegade Swish (a subsidiary of his hedge fund Q Investments), filed a lawsuit against Emily Wright, his former assistant house manager for $200,000.
As the assistant house manager, Wright’s responsibilities included managing Raynor’s massive 18,000 square-foot mansion and the staff of housekeepers that worked there.
According to the original suit, the former Bass family financial advisor claimed Wright would leave her post before she was supposed to while Raynor was out of town.
The suit also accused Wright of breaching a confidentiality agreement by telling Renegade Swish employees that the company owed her money for overtime and an unpaid bonus.
Wright was making $60,000 annually in the position.
In response, Wright filed a countersuit with Renegade Swish, saying the company still owes her overtime and $5,000 bonus while she worked there. In the countersuit, Wright’s attorneys accused Geoffrey Raynor of “recreational litigation against anyone who falls into Mr. Raynor’s disfavor.”
The claim also asserts the original claims have no merit.
According to previous Star-Telegram reporting, Renegade Swish dropped the original suit in 2016, but Wright chose to continue with her own claim, accusing her former employer of using retaliatory litigation to bully people like herself.
Her lawyers are seeking punitive damages and emotional distress.
Testimony for the civil trial in Emily Wright v. Renegade Swish starts Wednesday morning in the 153rd District Court of Tarrant County.
