Apartment rent growth slowed slightly in April

The Fort Worth-Arlington metro area in April saw slight declines in apartment rent growth, according to the latest Axiometrics market report.

Fort Worth’s rent growth was 6.2 percent in April, down from 6.9 percent in March. Fort Worth renters paid an average of $914.25 for their apartments, compared to $1,024.57 in Dallas.

Stephanie McCleskey, Axiometrics vice president of research, said 301 new local units were completed in April. Fort Worth apartments were 95.4 percent occupied, slightly above the national average of 95 percent for April.

Commercial construction contracts decline

The value of commercial construction contracts for North Texas fell 30 percent in April, according to the latest Dodge Data and Analytics market report.

Contracts totaled $272.2 million for the month, compared to $386.4 million a year ago.

Residential construction contracts totaled $781.9 million in April, up 4 percent from $751.5 million in April of 2014.

For the first four months of 2015, commercial contracts totaled $973 million, down 6 percent from $1 billion in the same period a year ago.

Residential contracts totaled $2.3 billion, up 7 percent from $2.1 billion in the first four months of 2014, the report shows.
