Former steakhouse restaurant downtown to become brewery

The shuttered Rodeo Steakhouse location on Calhoun Street, a block east of the Fort Worth Convention Center in downtown, will become The Acre Distillery.

Tony Formby, chief executive of 2x4 Brewing & Imports and once an investor in Rahr & Sons Brewing on the near south side, has bought the 7,000-square-foot former restaurant location at 1309 Calhoun St. for the brewery. Formby served as a managing partner at Rahr, but left the brewery in 2013.

Formby’s 2x4 Brewing & Imports is based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The company was started to introduce Canadian craft beers to the American market, its website says.

The Calhoun Street location was also formerly The Keg, which opened there in 1974. The property was sold by real estate investors Shirlee and Taylor Gandy. The couple had owned the property since 2008.

Scott Lowe with Vision Commercial represented the sellers. Michael Goodrich with Goodrich Postnikoff & Associates represented the buyer.
