Cabela’s plans rifle giveaway for Black Friday shoppers

Cabela’s is taking aim at Black Friday.

The outdoors retailer will give the first 600 customers at its Fort Worth store on Friday a mystery envelope, one of which will be good for a Browning AB3 Hunter bolt-action rifle worth about $600, according to spokeswoman Tracy Doty. The winner must be 18 years old and pass a background check.

Cabela’s will open its doors on Black Friday at 5 a.m. It will be closed on Thanksgiving.

People literally camp out at the store starting Wednesday to participate in the giveaway, Doty said. The store provides entertainment, hot chocolate and other gifts on Friday morning, she said.

“We have been doing this for several years and we have a great following,” Doty said. “It’s a great time.”

The store will distribute tickets to the customers waiting in line. Then, at about 4 a.m. Friday an employee will hand out envelopes telling the ticket holders what they’ve won, she said. The giveaways include other items such as a day pack, a smoker and gift cards.

The Cabela’s store in Fort Worth is located near Alliance Airport at 12901 Cabela Dr.

Bass Pro Shops is buying Cabela’s 85 stores, which are located mostly in the western United States. Bass Pro Shops’ 99 stores are mostly in the east, but it has Outdoor World stores near Grapevine Mills and in Garland.
