Amazon testing 30-minute delivery service in Fort Worth
In December, Amazon announced that the company would begin testing a new service allowing members to get groceries, household items, electronics, and select other goods delivered to their doorstep in 30 minutes in parts of Seattle, Washington and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Testing for that program has now expanded to Fort Worth, the company says, bringing ultra-fast deliveries to some neighborhoods in the city — but not all of them.
Amazon did not share an exact radius for the 30-minute delivery service with the Star-Telegram, but according to filings with the city of Fort Worth, there are at least two distribution centers for drivers to use. One is located near West Seventh, and one is located further south near West Morningside.
Amazon users can find out if they are eligible by opening the app and looking for a “30-Minute Delivery” option. Members get a discounted delivery fee of $3.99 per order, and an order fee of $1.99 will apply to orders below $15, according to a news release from Amazon.
The speedy delivery service, Amazon says, utilizes smaller distribution facilities for “efficient order fulfillment.”
In December, Amazon applied for alcohol distance checks at both of the Fort Worth delivery hub sites, potentially opening the door to get alcoholic beverages delivered through the new service.
