A man in Fort Worth is facing a murder charge after a 21-year-old man died of a fentanyl overdose in November 2023, according to police and county records.

Matthew Teran died of fentanyl toxicity in his Fort Worth home on Nov. 6, 2023, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. Police have arrested Ramiro Limon, also 21, on suspicion of murder involving an overdose.

The charge is possible because of a Texas law that went into effect two months before Teran’s death.

Teran was a Castleberry High School graduate whose football and academic abilities earned him a scholarship from Waldorf University in Iowa, his family wrote in an obituary. They described him as very athletic and “an overachiever” who earned several academic awards and athletic medals.

His family wrote that Teran was a devout Christian who loved theology and participating in Bible studies. He loved music, liked meeting new people and enjoyed his mother’s cooking, especially sweets.

Limon was arrested Feb. 29 and is being held at the Tarrant County Jail on $100,000 bond, according to police and jail records.
