FORT WORTH -- A 25-year-old Fort Worth man was sentenced to seven years in prison on Monday for fatally shooting a man at a gathering outside a south Fort Worth home last year.
Gregorio Ontiveros reached a plea bargain agreement with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to murder in the June 3, 2007, death of Joe Abrego, 29. In exchange, he received the seven-year term.
"Considering the evidence that would be admissible from both sides, I believe that justice was served in this case," said prosecutor Darrell Davila, who handled the plea.
Defense attorney Rose Anna Salinas represented Ontiveros. She was in court on Tuesday morning and could not immediately be reached for comment.

Police have said that Ontiveros and Abrego had been drinking in the front yard of a home in the 1400 block of East Butler Street when Abrego challenged Ontiveros to a fight. Witnesses told police there appeared to be no provocation and, later, when Abrego challenged him again, Ontiveros pulled out a gun and shot him in the chest.
