Go behind the scenes of rodeo’s new home at Fort Worth’s Dickies Arena
If you haven’t gotten a ticket to one of the Fort Worth Stock Show’s rodeos, you have until Saturday to see what it’s like at the new Dickies Arena.
To be sure, the new $540 million Dickies Arena is a far departure from the Will Rogers Coliseum, which was home to the stock show rodeo from 1944 to 2019.
The arena features many technological advances, including 18 cameras that broadcast the events from an enormous scoreboard suspended from the ceiling. The footage is also available behind the scenes so rodeo contestants can study their performances from multiple angles on a station dubbed “the Dreamcatcher.”
Asked if he missed the old Will Rogers Coliseum, Bob Tallman’s answer was an emphatic no.
“I’ve been waiting for a long time for this,” said Tallman, the longtime announcer for the Fort Worth Stock Show rodeo.
After further thought, he conceded he might miss the hot dogs and smell of old dirt. The Stock Show & Rodeo runs through Saturday.
