Two alumni from award-winning Goldee’s BBQ near Fort Worth are New York-bound to open a Texas barbecue restaurant in Brooklyn.
Goldee’s co-founder Jonny White of Arlington and former pitmaster Chuck Charnichart of Barbs Bar-B-Q in Lockhart will team to open Kirbee’s, a Texas barbecue joint, according to Eater New York.
Kirbee’s will open at 55 McGuinness Blvd. South in the Greenpoint neighborhood, replacing a Korean fried chicken stand.
Like Goldee’s, Kirbee’s will only open for lunch Fridays through Sundays. White expects a line similar to that at Goldee’s, which opened in 2020.
The 20-24-seat restaurant is expected to open in summer, Eater said.
Kirbee’s will serve Texas and Mexican-spiced briskets, pork ribs and Barbs’ “green spaghett” (poblano spaghetti), Eater said.
White said he will cook in smoker ovens over post oak. He joked that “the purists are going to be upset” that he’s not using an offset smoker.
Barbs and Goldee’s are both listed in Michelin Guide for “good value.”
Charnichart, a Brownsville product, worked the pit at Goldee’s before opening Barbs in 2023 at 102 E. Market St., Lockhart.
White has sold his share of Goldee’s, now owned by partners Jalen Heard, Nupohn Inthanousay, Lane Milne and Zain Shafi. Heard and Milne were original co-founders with White.
Goldee’s, formerly rated the No. 1 barbecue restaurant in Texas by Texas Monthly magazine, is at 4645 Dick Price Road in rural Tarrant County south of Kennedale.
White also has Ribbees, a ribs and chicken restaurant at 923 E. Seminary Drive in Fort Worth.
