Rangers favorite Hurtado BBQ to open Tex-Mex restaurant near Globe Life
Texas Rangers fan favorite Hurtado BBQ will open a full-service Tex-Mex restaurant and bar across from Globe Life Field, owner Brandon Hurtado said Friday.
The restaurant, named Loma, will replace a Houston chain at 1011 Nolan Ryan Expressway underneath the stands of Choctaw Stadium, originally The Ballpark in Arlington.
Hurtado said the restaurant will serve a stepped-up Tex-Mex menu that includes wagyu beef fajitas and weekend brunch, with darker “date-night” lighting at night.
Hurtado wrote in an online message that the restaurant will serve a “much-needed” lunch along with dinner.
“Loma” — in English, “hill” — is the term used in Spanish for the pitchers’ mound.
The space underneath the old first-base corner was originally decorated as a franchise location of El Tiempo Cantina in Houston. But it never achieved the strong following of the Houston restaurants.
The restaurant will serve as a Tex-Mex option for Globe Life crowds and also for the Live by Loews! and Loews Arlington hotels across the street.
Parking across East Randol Mill Road is free, except around game times.
Hurtado Barbecue, a Central Texas-style craft barbecue restaurant with a busy Globe Life stand, is popular for both traditional barbecue brisket and ribs and also for birria tacos and “Mexi-cue.”
Brandon and Hannah Hurtado operate four restaurants, with a fifth coming in Argyle. The original location is in Arlington at 205 E. Front St., with other locations at 1116 Eighth Ave., Fort Worth; 226 N. Walnut Creek Drive, Mansfield; and 900 S. Harwood St., Dallas.
The Argyle location is at 421 U.S. 377 South.
Hurtado started in 2018 with pop-ups serving brisket tacos, then opened in downtown Arlington in February 2020. It was the same day that Goldee’s Barbecue, ranked No. 1 in the state by Texas Monthly, opened near Kennedale.
