Where to eat on Thanksgiving in Fort Worth: good deals and a big buffet
A Thanksgiving family holiday buffet can cost less than $30 per person.
Or as much as (shiver) $169.
The price range is wide this year, with some restaurants and hotels dropping prices and others raising them to make up for slow business going into the holidays.
Here’s an early look at a few choices:
The best deals
• The greatness of Texas’ iconic Luby’s Cafeterias shines through on Thanksgiving. A turkey lunch with two side dishes, a roll and a small dessert sells for an unbeatable price: $13.99.
The Luby’s in the Fort Worth area is on Interstate 20 near Forest Hill Drive; 3312 SE Loop 820, lubys.com.
• For 18 years, the biggest and best deal on a fancy Thanksgiving hotel ballroom buffet has been at the Omni Fort Worth hotel, 1300 Houston St.
This year, the price is a value compared to some hotels: $90.
It’s usually worth it. The menu includes salads, breakfasts, soups and dim sum, plus entrees such as rosemary turkey, bourbon-glazed ham or coffee-smoked brisket, with sides such as dressing, sweet potato casserole and green bean casserole.
The menu also lists 14 desserts; See for yourself at omnifortworthhotel.com.
Yes, I know that’s expensive.
But it’s not as pricey as the Marriott Gaylord Texan buffet in Grapevine, $110-$125, or the Ritz-Carlton buffet in Irving, $145.
• For a different hotel buffet, Emilia’s is showing off the newer Crescent Fort Worth hotel, 3300 Camp Bowie Blvd. The buffet is $85, featuring turkey, ham, smoked salmon and sides; emiliasfortworth.com.
• For Texas visitors and guests seeking a holiday experience, the best pick might be the brightly decorated 97 West Kitchen & Bar at the Hotel Drover, 200 Mule Alley in the Fort Worth Stockyards.
The 97 West lunch is $80. It offers a choice of roast turkey, steak, smoked prime rib or other entrees; 97westkitchenandbar.com.
The budget bracket
• Fort Worth’s and Burleson’s reliable Ol’ South Pancake Houses will both serve turkey lunch plates for $18.99; 1509 S. University Drive or 225 E. Renfro St., olsouthpancakehouse.com.
• The traditional family serve-yourself holiday buffet in the Fort Worth area will cost $25.99. That’s at Heaven’s Gate Restaurant, a daily all-you-can-eat lunch buffet at 3820 N. Main St.; heavensgaterestaurant.com.
• The Mimi’s Cafe chain in Fort Worth and Arlington will serve a three-course turkey dinner with dessert for $31.99; 5858 SW Loop 820 or 301 Interstate 20 East, mimiscafe.com.
• Both Taste Community charity restaurants in Fort Worth and Arlington will serve a pay-what-you-can lunch to help feed others who can’t afford it; 1200 S. Main St. or 200 N. Cooper St., tasteproject.org.
More turkey deals
• In northeast Tarrant County, the Thanksgiving favorite is Chef Point Cafe in Colleyville.
The turkey dinner is only $28, or step up to prime rib or duck; 5220 Texas 121, chefpointcafe.org.
• Blue Mesa Grill will roll out its holiday buffet with turkey, brisket, ham, salmon and Thanksgiving sides along with the usual tacos, enchiladas, omelets, waffles and Southwest-Mex.
Best thing about Blue Mesa: The buffet opens at 8 a.m., so feed the family before the football game or before they hit the road for another dinner later. It’s $45; 612 Carroll St., bluemesagrill.com.
• All the prime steakhouses are open, but the best bargain might be at Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille in Grapevine, 2400 Texas 114 West.
Perry’s is serving a turkey dinner with soup or salad dessert all day for $49. Or choose prime rib; perryssteakhouse.com.
• If your favorite restaurant or steakhouse isn’t listed above, ask: It may be open. Or check reservation services: opentable.com, resy.com and exploretock.com.
