What’s going on at Taco Heads? Remodel coming for Fort Worth restaurant
Taco Heads, which grew from a West Seventh Street taco truck to a sprawling restaurant overlooking the Cultural District, has a new owner and will be getting a new look.
Addison-based MAD Concepts, the owner of Jakes Burgers and the fast-expanding Tacos & Avocados fajita-margarita shops, has applied for city and state permits to remodel the current Taco Heads, 1812 Montgomery St.
The restaurant remains open for lunch and dinner daily.
MAD Concepts founder Bob Gregg said he is not ready yet to talk about future plans for Taco Heads, which was founded by restaurateur Sarah Castillo before she moved on to launch La Pulga Spirits.
A second plan for the newer Taco Heads location at 2349 N. Main St. is also “evolving,” he said.
The company is building new Tacos & Avocados locations at 9301 Benbrook Blvd., Benbrook, and at 5301 Davis Blvd., North Richland Hills. Both locations are next to new Jakes Burgers.
Tacos &d Avocados originally opened in 2012 in Roanoke as part of the Twisted Root Burger restaurant chain.
It was revived last year by the owners of Jakes, a 1985 chain that was originally a spinoff by the Keller’s Hamburgers family.
Tacos & Avocados opened its first new location at 1309 S. Broadway St. in the Old Town section of Carrollton.
The colorful Carrollton restaurant has a small dining room and a large, airy patio, much like the Taco Heads location across Montgomery Street from Dickies Arena.
Tacos and Avocados features a larger menu of specialty margaritas, fajita platters, tacos, burritos and nachos.
