A foamy Fort Worth beer favorite is moving out of South Main Village after 20 years

Rahr Brewing Company, a pioneer in the South Main Village renaissance and the Texas craft beer industry, is looking to move to a new Fort Worth location and will close its original brewhouse and tasting room May 17, co-founder Fritz Rahr posted Sunday on Facebook.

Rahr’s tap room, 701 Galveston Ave., became a busy gathering place and event center in the 2000s and 2010s craft beer boom.

It was one of the first businesses to draw crowds to the now-busy South Main Street area, before renewal brought new restaurants and bars.

Rahr wrote in a text message that he is looking to move the brewing company somewhere else in Fort Worth.

He wrote that he is seeking a site about the same size as the Galveston Avenue building, a 50-year-old former Coca-Cola Bottling warehouse.

“We simply are outgrowing its capabilities and want to completely revamp and upgrade our brewery systems,” Rahr texted.

Retail sales of Rahr in restaurants, stores and bars will not be interrupted, he wrote.

The tap room is open Wednesday through Friday nights and from noon all day Saturdays through May 17.
