Vida Cafe near TCU joins Vegan Fest

Hey, Bud! What’s Vida Cafe on Blue Bonnet Circle? And what happened to that Fred’s?

— Going in circles

Vida Cafe, 3522 Blue Bonnet Circle near TCU, is a homespun vegan Italian restaurant, coffee shop and bakery. It’s not fancy, but it’s flavorful. Along with vegan-Mex neighbor Belenty’s, it’s part of Vegan Fest Sept. 30 at Southside Bar, 3425 S Grove St. off Interstate 35W near West Biddison Street

The Fred’s on the circle closed in 2020 because it was too close to another location. Fred’s has since moved to near the Benbrook Traffic Circle at 7101 Camp Bowie West Blvd.

Chente Cafe reopens river landmark

Hey, Bud! Have you tried Chente Cafe yet where the Brazos River Catfish Cafe used to be?

—Campo Verde fan

Not yet, because it was closed the day I tried to go. But Chente, on the Brazos River at 10771 Interstate 20 West on the service road at the Millsap exit, is already gaining a reputation for chiles rellenos and other Southwestern comfort food. The owners came from Campo Verde near Arlington, which changed staff and downgraded its menu.
