Jake & Dorothy’s restaurant turns 75

Monday, June 12, is Jake & Dorothy’s 75th anniversary. Dine-in lunches will be $6, and chicken-fried steak dinners with waffle fries will be $7.75. Go this weekend for burger and pie specials. It’s a classic small-town cafe open all day, 406 E. Washington St.

Recalling Casa Bonita, Crystal’s Pizza

Hey, Bud! The Casa Bonita in Denver is reopening. Can we do this and also bring back Crystal’s Pizza? Same founder, the genius Bill Waugh.

—Fort Worth native @AbbyLiv817 on Twitter

I’m afraid that the geniuses reopening Casa Bonita in Denver are not reopening the entire chain of Tex-Mex-theme-park restaurants. Also, we’d have to move an appliance store at 4786 Hulen Park Drive. Crystal’s would displace whatever is at 6381 Camp Bowie Blvd.

First Watch cafe might join Waterside

Hey, Bud! Do you know anything about a First Watch opening in Waterside?

—Ready for brunch

Matter of fact, yes. The Florida-based First Watch breakfast-lunch cafe has applied to build at 5924 Convair Drive in Waterside. But the company and landlord both said the lease isn’t final.
