Popular Tex-Mex restaurant from Ellis County to open in Fort Worth’s Foundry district
Campuzano, a popular Waxahachie restaurant known for nachos and “over-the-top” margaritas, will open in a former coffee bar in the Foundry district west of downtown, according to a state permit application.
Campuzano will open by winter at 2700 Weisenberger St., on the corner at Carroll Street near M&O Station Grill and Blackland Distillery.
The restaurant, popular for scratch-made sauces and house-cut fajitas and carne asada, originated in Midlothian and now has locations in Cedar Hill, Waxahachie and at 2618 Oak Lawn Ave., Dallas.
The new location is a boost to the arts-driven Foundry after two recent losses.
A wine bar, Thirty Eight & Vine, recently closed. Meyer & Sage, a gourmet takeout shop, will close May 20.
Campuzano filed a permit for $634,500 in improvements with minor facade alterations for a 4,230-square-foot space.
According to a 2012 profile in Waxahachie-based SouthwestNOW magazine, Brian Harding and Jimmy Case started the restaurant and then added the Cedar Hill location at 213 W. Belt Line Road. They have chosen historic locations with distinctive architecture.
Commenters on social media praise the shrimp tortilla soup, quesadillas and loaded nachos.
