What a summer for Fort Worth restaurants! New burgers, barbecue, birria tacos

From burgers to brisket and more, it’s been a busy summer for new restaurants in Fort Worth.

We’re watching now for 3rd Street Market, a new downtown cafe with fresh-made sourdough bread, to open within days, and the new Truck Yard any week now.

Here’s a look at some of the best new restaurants that opened over the summer:

Paco’s Mexican Cuisine & Cantina

The new Paco’s location downtown, 156 E. Fourth St., has brought lunch and dinner crowds back to Sundance Square Plaza for affordable interior-Mexico cooking and a selection of margaritas.

What’s best about Paco’s is the price point. The enchilada or taco plates are about $12, about $16 for birria tacos. Fajitas are less than $20.

Try something different, like the steak-chicken-and-chorizo molcajete combination; open daily for lunch an dinner, 817-346-2402, pacoscuisine.net.

JD’s Hamburgers

Repeating, I know: But what’s amazing about JD’s Hamburgers, new at 9901 Camp Bowie Blvd. West., is that it has more than great burgers.

The new grill-and-bar serving far west Fort Worth leads with a menu of six sharp burgers such as the “Cheryl & Bo” with Hatch chile queso and caramelized onions, or the “Sherlie Ann & Donnie” with bacon, peach pico de gallo and Swiss.

But the grilled chicken sandwich is just as good. The sides include okra fries. And there’s also a weekend brunch menu.

The long dessert menu includes banana pudding, apricot fried pies and blackberry cobbler.

There’s a full bar with craft cocktails and local brews.

It’s open weeknights, all day Saturday and for lunch Sunday; no phone orders yet, but check it out at jdshamburgers.com.

It’s the perfect counterpart for Dayne’s Craft Barbecue, which opened across the street earlier in the summer.

Hurtado BBQ, Panther City BBQ

Brandon Hurtado’s smash-hit barbecue stand from Arlington drew lunch crowds right away at the new Fort Worth location, 1116 Eighth Ave.

It’s known for brisket, ribs, sausage and “Mexicue” dishes. But don’t miss the morning brisket-and-egg tacos.

It’s open for breakfast and lunch through late afternoon daily except Mondays; hurtadobbq.com.

Neaby, state Top-10 favorite Panther City BBQ is now a traditional dining-room restaurant with an indoor service line.

If you’ve passed up Panther City’s brisket elote from the original truck out front, then come on inside at 201 E. Hattie St. (also listed as 201 E. Pennsylvania Ave.); open for lunch or brunch Wednesday through Sunday, 682-499-5618; panthercitybbq.com.

Caterina’s

Chef Tim Love’s showcase restaurant, Caterina’s, is a new upscale Italian joint in Mule Alley, near his new Paloma Suerte Tex-Mex restaurant and soon-to-open Tannahill’s Tavern.

The jury is still out on Caterina’s menu. But it’s already popular for its jackets-required dress code and no-cellphones policy.

It’s open nightly at 128 E. Exchange Ave.; 682-267-0812, caterinasftx.com.

The Tannahill’s music hall is open, but watch for the restaurant in November.

It’ll serve everything from a fried bologna sandwich to ribs, coq au vin, tempura fish-and-chips and poutine. Be watching tannahills.com.
