America, it’s that time again: National Taco Day, with $1-$1.50 deals (and a freebie)

Tuesday is Taco Day.

No, not just Taco Tuesday — this particular Oct. 4 is National Taco Day, the annual celebration of everything served in a flour or corn tortilla.

The biggest Taco Day specials come from corporate chains such as Chuy’s Tex-Mex, Fuzzy’s, On the Border, Rusty Taco and Taco Cabana.

But tacos are inexpensive every day at corner taquerias, so don’t pass up local restaurants.

Here are the most-promoted specials:

Fuzzy’s Taco Shop: $1.50 tacos

Irving-based Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, one of the original restaurants to celebrate Taco Day, offers $1.50 tacos all day with its distinctive feta and garlic sauce.

Fuzzy’s started at 2917 W. Berry St., Fort Worth, and has grown to about 150 locations, including 12 across Tarrant County; fuzzystacoshop.com.

Chuy’s is known for thin chips and fresh salsa.

Chuy’s Tex-Mex: $1 taco add-ons

All Chuy’s Tex-Mex Restaurants of Austin locations will offer $1 tacos with any entree.

If you dress up in a taco costume — every Texan has a taco costume, right? — you get a free entree.

Chuy’s has four Tarrant County locations in central and north Fort Worth, Arlington and Southlake; chuys.com.

(This deal is for the big Austin-based Chuy’s, not the little family-owned local Chuy’s Restaurants. But they serve good tacos, too, and bargain-priced platters at five locations, including a new Chuy’s on Farm Road 730 north of Azle.)

Rusty Taco: Free taco with signup

Rusty Taco, now an Atlanta-owned division of Arby’s, Buffalo Wild Wings and Sonic, is bringing back one of its original Texas favorites.

The “Uptown Taco” includes fried chicken, honey, queso and sriracha.

It’s free Oct. 4 to anyone signed up for the “Friends of Rusty” app club.

Rusty Taco has three Tarrant County locations in Fort Worth, Hurst and Mansfield; rustytaco.com.

On the Border: $2-$4 tacos

The Irving-based On the Border restaurants will offer $2 traditional tacos.

There’s also a $4 brisket taco or Southwest chicken taco with cheese, sauce and onion strings. But the $2 tacos are the way to go.

On the Border has nine locations across Tarrant County; ontheborder.com

Taco Cabana: $1 bean-and-cheese tacos

San Antonio-based Taco Cabana, another restaurant with a long history of Taco Day specials, will offer $1 bean-and-cheese tacos.

Taco Cabana thinks that’s special.

““We wanted to celebrate not only the day, but celebrate our iconic bean and cheese taco as well,” chief executive Ulyses Camacho said in an over-the-top news release.

Taco Cabana would also like everyone to know that the $1 bean tacos are also available at $12 for 12.

Yes. They sent an announcement about this.

If you’re itching for a bean taco, Taco Cabana has nine Tarrant County locations; tacocabana.com.
