A new Hoffbrau Steak & Grill is opening in Tarrant County. Here’s where
Hoffbrau Steak & Grill House, a midprice steakhouse known for platters and steaks starting at under $20, has bought a tavern and pub in Grapevine to open its third Tarrant County location.
Hoffbrau will replace a location of Houston-based Brick House Tavern and Tap at 700 Texas 114 West in a 30-year-old building that operated for years as the county’s first Romano’s Macaroni Grill.
Brick House Tavern remains open through June, Hoffbrau owner Rainey Fogiel said.
Hoffbrau will bring a menu of less expensive steaks, chicken-fried steaks, catfish and burgers to a Grapevine market dominated by more expensive prime steakhouses.
It’s the right time.
“People are downsizing to chicken-fried steaks,” Fogiel said. “The same people who used to get a rib-eye, now they get a chicken-fried steak. It’s become our top seller.”
Hoffbrau offers chicken-fried steak three ways: with pepper gravy, with jalapeno gravy or the “Cowtown” with a pepper Jack chile relleno and pico de gallo. All are less than $20, with the basic chicken-fried selling for less than $15 at lunch.
The restaurant also offers sliced smoked sirloin, sausage, chicken and ribs with a Dr Pepper barbecue sauce, along with thick cheeseburgers and other home-cooking items.
Hoffbrau’s other locations are in Benbrook, Haltom City, Amarillo and Granbury.
The company is still looking for a new location in Fort Worth to replace the flagship South University Drive restaurant that closed last year, Fogiel said.
Plans for a Mansfield location have been delayed over construction costs, she said.
Hoffbrau, originally inspired in 1978 by a small Austin steakhouse known for lemon-butter-brushed steaks and an olive vinaigrette dressing, has operated a Bedford location but has never opened in Grapevine, a tourist town with an appetite for Texas-themed restaurants.
“Grapevine has so much going on, and it’s a great location on the freeway” next to Pappadeaux Seafood, Fogiel said.
The restaurant needs minor changes and may be open by fall, she said.
