Lucille Bishop Smith’s chili biscuits were sold and served nationwide, and her cooking made her the state’s first prominent Black businesswoman and one of the first prominent Black chefs. The story of her life and receipes will be presented at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Como Community Center, 4660 Horne St., by Katrina Carpenter of Carpenter’s Cafe & Catering.

New Fort Worth burger restaurants opening soon

Hey, Bud! When are those new west side hamburger places going to open?

The new JD’s Hamburgers, 9901 Camp Bowie Blvd. West, is still finishing up the parking and back area. Fred’s Texas Cafe, 7101 Camp Bowie Blvd. West, is booked to reopen in April . (Fred’s is now serving at 10 a.m. weekends at the north side location, 2730 Western Center Blvd., and will add it when the west side location opens.)
