Another vacancy in Sundance Square: A downtown Fort Worth burger grill is closed
A Five Guys Burgers & Fries location in Sundance Square has closed, 10 years after it opened as the Virginia-based chain’s first Fort Worth restaurant.
The restaurant, 313 Houston St., is no longer listed on the company website at fiveguys.com. Newer locations remain open at 4833 S. Hulen St. and 9180 North Freeway in Fort Worth, along with restaurants in North Richland Hills, Arlington and Euless.
Five Guys’ 2012 debut in Sundance was heralded at a time when the company was growing a reputation as one of the country’s best burger chains. It occupied part of the space that was originally home to a legacy Sundance burger restaurant, Billy Miner’s Saloon, and next door to Cabo Grande, a Tex-Mex restaurant.
But the Sundance location was not rated as high on social media as other Five Guys. It rarely made “best burger” ratings and was ranked below a nearby location of Dallas-based Chop House Burger and a Main Street location of Dallas-based Jakes Burgers.
Five Guys has sold dozens of restaurants to franchisees and has closed more than 20 locations nationally in recent years. An older location in Southlake Town Square also closed.
“Five Guys was a good Sundance tenant and will be missed, but other great restaurants are in discussions,” spokesman Bryan Eppstein said.
Five Guys is the latest of several closings in Sundance Square, including anchors Bird Cafe, Taco Diner and Taverna Pizzeria and Risotteria.
Cantina Laredo also closed in the adjacent Tower, which is not a Sundance property.
