Pickle N Chicken doubles up

Hey, Bud! Was there some pickleball place opening?

—Dwight, Fort Worth

Courtside Kitchen in Fort Worth will open Dec. 28. And look for Chicken N Pickle to open two locations: 2965 Highway 161 South, Grand Prairie, and 4600 Merlot Ave., Grapevine, across Texas 121 from La Hacienda Ranch.

New Fred’s coming in February

Hey, Bud! Is Fred’s still moving to Camp Bowie Boulevard? The “for sale” sign is still up.

—Julia, Fort Worth

Work started this week, I’m told. Fred’s, 915 Currie St., will host an all-day party Dec. 31 before moving by spring to 7101 Camp Bowie Blvd. West.

No fee for debit cards

Hey, Bud! [Name of restaurant] started adding a service charge for using a credit card. Is that legal?

—Sara, Arlington

Texas no longer has a law against charging a processing fee. The courts overturned it in 2018. Restaurants are now free to add the processing fee for credit cards. (But not debit cards.)
