Quince is from Fort Worth, but it started 970 miles south.

The Fort Worth-owned global-cuisine restaurant in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, will open a second location next spring at 1701 River Run in the West Bend shopping center.

Quince’s reputation has grown among travelers for its rooftop view of the landmark cathedral in San Miguel de Allende. The popular tourist destination is known for its setting on a plateau in the mountains northwest of Mexico City.

In Fort Worth, Quince will bring the same patio and atmosphere to the Trinity Trail between HG Sply Co. and Ascension Coffee, replacing Bartaco the shopping center near the zoo and TCU.

Another major West Bend announcement is expected soon.

Owner Brian Sneed of Fort Worth and chef Gonzalo Martínez teamed up to open Quince five years ago in San Miguel, where it has a view of the city’s famous cathedral and the distant mountains from what is promoted as the “No. 1 rooftop in the world.”

As a hedge fund executive, Sneed traveled the world and always sought out the best restaurants, he said.

He rarely found great food and a great view together, so he put them together himself on a rooftop in San Miguel.

The same patio spirit will come to Fort Worth, he said.

The restaurant’s front door will move closer to arriving patrons, and a covered, wraparound outdoor dining area will extend along the north and east sides of the restaurant.

The interior will be open to provide a river view from every table, Sneed said. He described the dining room decor as “like a Spanish castle.”

The menu by Martínez, a former executive sous chef in New York at the Rainbow Room, features sushi, rice bowls and entrees such as steaks and seafood. The current menu features an ancho-hibiscus blackened ahi tuna, panko-crusted sea bass in ancho cream sauce, and steaks over Peruvian aji verde risotto.

A Sunday brunch menu offers huevos in a molcajete sauce, chilaquiles and stuffed peppers over chipotle hollandaise.

Sneed hopes to open Quince by spring break, he said.

“I think people in Fort Worth are ready for someplace new and different, with a little more energy,” he said.

Quince is the second major restaurant from Mexico to announce a Fort Worth location. Don Artemio, a fine-dining steakhouse from Saltillo known for prime steaks and dry-aged prime rib, is under construction at 3268 W. Seventh St.
