Where’s the best barbecue joint in Fort Worth? New hopefuls for the Texas Top 50 list
For the barbecue world, it’s like the Oscars or the Emmys.
The Texas Monthly list of “50 Best Barbecue Joints” will be announced Oct. 18, the result of a year’s research at 411 restaurants.
For the owners, it can mean statewide fame and weekend lines of Texans driving miles to find “the next Snow’s” or “the next Franklin’s.”
“It’s real important to all of us — it’s a credible source for determining who’s great at barbecue,” said Dayne Weaver, a candidate for his Dayne’s Craft Barbecue, 2735 W. Fifth St.
Even a passing mention in the Top 50 issue can establish a reputation that endures for years, or at least until the next list in 2025.
This year, be watching for at least one or two newcomers in the Top 50 from the long list of excellent local craft barbecue restaurants that have opened since the last list in 2017.
In Fort Worth, new possibilities along with Dayne’s include:
▪ Brix Barbecue, 218 Bryan Ave.;
▪ Derek Allan’s Texas Barbecue, 1116 Eighth Ave.;
▪ Goldee’s Barbecue, 4645 Dick Price Road;
▪ Panther City BBQ, 201 E. Pennsylvania Ave.;
▪ and Smoke-A-Holics BBQ, 1417 Evans Ave.
In Arlington, the list of new candidates eligible for the first time Hurtado Barbecue, 205 E. Front St.
(In Roanoke, Smiley’s Craft Barbecue is relocating and thus might have missed out.)
On the 2017 list, the Fort Worth area’s top-ranked restaurant was BBQ on the Brazos, 9001 U.S. 377 East in Cresson.
This week, BBQ on the Brazos is among restaurants running a special Oct. 9-17 to celebrate Texas Monthly BBQ Week.
