This popular Fort Worth restaurant on the Trinity River is adding a barbecue stand

Press Cafe, the popular Clearfork restaurant along the Clear Fork of the Trinity River and the Trinity Trails, will open a barbecue stand nearby, owner Felipe Armenta said Thursday.

As a guest on the Star-Telegram “Eats Beat” Facebook Live podcast, Armenta said Press Cafe Barbecue will offer barbecue with an updated “healthy and light” take, including sides such as kale salad, grain bowls, quinoa salad and pasta salad.

The new barbecue trailer would park in the Trinity Trails location west of Press where Flores Barbecue, Campo Smokehouse and Joe Riscky’s BBQ opened in past years. (Campo, a project of chef Louis Lambert and partners, has become part of Lambert’s new Roy Pope Grocery effort.)

Armenta, known for Press and his Tavern and Pacific Table restaurants, just opened the jammed Maria’s Mexican Kitchen restaurant near the Fort Worth Zoo and is about to open Towne Grill in Alliance Town Center.

He’s always wanted to try a barbecue restaurant, he said, but when he goes out for barbecue “it’s like I need to take a nap.”

Permit applications are filed, and the stand will open later this summer, he said.
