Big burger news for Arlington: A Fatburger will open near AT&T Stadium

California favorite Fatburger will open its second Tarrant County location in the Champions Park shopping center in north Arlington.

According to a state liquor license application, Fatburger will open next door to Torchy’s Tacos at 1807 N. Collins St., formerly a BurgerFi a mile north of AT&T Stadium.

An earlier Fatburger at 6039 Precinct Line Road in North Richland Hills drew opening lines that wrapped through the parking lot at The Crossing shopping center.

Fatburger is an iconic 1950s Los Angeles favorite smashed on a sizzling griddle. It’s available in beef, turkey (Fatburger sold 1 million turkey burgers last year), veggie or as a plant-based burger and served with “fat” french fries.

Yes, chicken sandwiches are also available.

Gluten-free buns and dairy-free cheese are options, along with plant-based shakes and meatless chicken wings.

Fatburger was founded by the late Black entrepreneur Lovie Yancey but is now part of a diverse California-based company that also owns all-natural Elevation Burger, Bonanza Steakhouse and other concepts.

Local franchisee Maisha Bankhead grew up eating Fatburgers on La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles.

“My mother and I would go to Fatburger across from the Beverly Canter, and the milkshakes were divine,” Bankhead said when the North Richland Hills location opened.

“We really are a throwback to an old-school hamburger stand,” she said.
