The owner says, ‘I love cooking burgers,’ and south Fort Worth adores his restaurant
When you see delivery drivers lining up four deep to grab burger orders, there’s a reason.
Two reasons, actually. The first is that Burgers N Beyond is next door to a grimy Fort Worth gas station, not exactly a dining hot spot.
But the more important reason is that the chargrilled burgers are so good.
Even if your burger hunt doesn’t extend to West Allen Avenue, BnB’s burgers is the kind of off-the-beaten-path stop worth a lunch visit or an online order.
From a former cafe at 1704 Galveston Ave., owner Ali Al Taher is sending out old-time chargrilled burgers with a home grill flavor completely different from most burger restaurants.
Al Taher said his family didn’t want to just open another burger grill.
“I love cooking burgers,” he said this week.
“I wanted something great — really high quality. And when you put burgers on the charbroiler, they smell so good. So I thought — what if I use really good fresh beef and cook on a charbroiler?”
The result is an above-average burger with broiler flavor, like Burger King when that chain started in Florida or like the iconic Dallas restaurant, Goff’s.
For less than $9, the Big BnB combo meal offers a half-pound double cheeseburger, special sauce, lettuce, pickles and grilled onions, along with a side of crinkle fries and a drink.
The special sauce is housemade, Al Taher said. So is the burger seasoning and the irresistible seasoning on the fries.
Al Taher said the sauces for wings and chicken tenders are also homemade, along with the spicy-white “Jerusalem sauce” over the chicken-and-rice platter.
The menu also includes Philly sandwiches. Al Taher is working on a new mushroom-Swiss burger and other varieties.
Burgers N Beyond opened last year and started rolling up high scores in ratings on delivery apps and Yelp.com.
“We wanted to start a family business,” he said. “We were just hoping people would give us a chance.”
Then came COVID-19.
Delivery apps suddenly became more important, along with sales to patients and staff at John Peter Smith Hospital across the street.
“To be honest, COVID-19 showed us how much people loved our business,” he said.
“Everybody has been standing by our side.”
He has logos, signs and plans for a second location, maybe in Richardson.
“We wish we would take it to another level and upgrade our location for Fort Worth,” he said.
“We would like a place with a drive-through to serve more people safely.”
Burgers N Beyond is open for lunch and dinner weekdays and Saturdays; 682-703-2111, burgersnbeyondtexas.com.
