Here’s more about the new Fort Worth art museum cafe. Two words: Pimiento. Cheese.
The Kimbell Café is open, and don’t expect anything like the art museum’s former buffet.
For now, the museum is serving box lunches.
That means some combination of a sandwich, quiche, soup or salad, served with a cookie or drink.
The Kimbell has its fans and customers don’t want it to change, so expect the basics.
The familiar mushroom soup stood out on one recent visit, along with a creamy side of housemade pimiento cheese.
A Southwestern quiche was simple. (A mushroom quiche was scheduled this week.)
The only real letdown was a half ham-and-swiss sandwich. A muffuletta was also offered last week, with sandwiches and quiches expected to change regularly.
Big plus: The Kimbell sells $12 sack lunches to enjoy out on the lawn.
The cafe is still gearing up, so expect the menu to grow.
You walk up to the host stand, grab a menu and pencil, pick a table and go turn in your order.
It’s $14 for two items with salad and fruit, or $12.50 for one.
The cafe is open for lunch daily except Mondays. (Opening time is staggered: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday, noon Friday, 11:30 a.m. Saturday and noon Sunday.)
It’s at 3333 Camp Bowie Blvd.; 817-332-8451 ext. 277. The website should be updated soon at kimbellart.org/visit/dine.
