Ascension Coffee is coming, finally

Hey, Bud! Is Ascension Coffee ever going to open like they said?

—Margaret, Fort Worth

Finally, Ascension Coffee has announced a fall opening in the WestBend shopping center on South University Drive along with ZAAP Kitchen Lao & Thai Street Eats.

Ascension, billed as an Australian-style coffee cafe and lounge, was supposed to be one of the original restaurants in WestBend, but a grocery Starbucks outlet delayed it. The pastries will come from Black Rooster Bakery in Fort Worth.

This will be the fourth location for former Nobu chef Kevin Singharaj’s ZAAP, serving pad Thai, tom kha, nam khao, “drunken” noodles, curries and green papaya salad.

Tacos, sushi new in Crockett Row

Hey, Bud! Weren’t you saying something new was opening in Crockett Row?

—Guy 6 feet away in the Paris Coffee Shop

They’ve got a Blue Fish sushi, a long-standing Dallas favorite, opening at 2932 Crockett St. It’ll be a good fit. Also, Crockett Hall’s taco restaurant, Taco Paseo, is open for breakfast and weekend brunch through dinner, 3000 Crockett St.

A tale of two chilis

Hey, Bud! I saw where The Original took over El Rancho Grande. Any chance they can keep the chili?

—Chili guy

That’s a tough call. El Rancho Grande and also the local Pulido’s restaurants are known for serving a very Texan chili con carne. But The Original’s chili is smoother and goes better with its Tex-Mex cheese or beef enchiladas. The Original Del Norte does plan to keep Rancho Grande’s thin, light chips and tortillas.
