Eats Beat

Here’s where to find great food deals during TCU football season. Just wear purple.

The return of TCU football brings one of the city’s best deals: Go Purple Friday.

Customers wearing purple on Friday before a Horned Frogs game get up to 25% off food and drinks at local restaurants.

One of the best offers: 20% off tacos and margaritas at Taco Heads, 1812 Montgomery St.

Needless to say, Taco Heads had expected a busier year from Dickies Arena across the street.

“It was exciting — event after event,” owner Sarah Castillo said.

“Then COVID[-19] hit. ... I wanna be busy but it’s scary.”

Taco Heads is ready for remodeling next year, with a permanent patio awning, more restrooms and a more visible front entrance.

For now, enjoy 20% off by wearing purple Fridays for quesadillas; breakfast tacos; the signature fish, shrimp, pastor or corn-avocado tacos; or the traditional chicken, brisket, beef or carnitas tacos.

(You don’t even have to wear a TCU logo. Any purple.)

The Meat Board specialty butcher and sandwich shop and burger grill, 6314 Camp Bowie Blvd., is offering 25% off any sandwich.

About 20 other restaurants offer 10% off, free appetizers or another benefit. See the list at gopurplefriday.com/restaurants.html.
