Another Sundance Square restaurant closes, third to go dark in downtown Fort Worth

Taverna, the Alberto Lombardi restaurant that became a 14-year anchor in Sundance Square, closed Friday night, according to a manager on duty.

Dallas-based Lombardi Family Concepts will look for another location, the manager said.

Taverna, originally billed as a “risotteria and pizzeria,” opened in 2006 in what is now named the Chase Bank Building.

It’s the second big-name Sundance restaurant to close. The first was Bird Cafe. Nearby. a location of Dallas-based Cantina Laredo also has closed.

Taverna is at least the sixth notable Fort Worth-area restaurant to close during the coronavirus pandemic, along with Bird, Deep Ellum Brewing, Cork & Pig Tavern on Crockett Row (an Irving location is open), Buttons Restaurant (moving to Dallas) and a Fred’s Texas Cafe location near TCU (other locations are open).

It is not related to the local Taverna Rossa pizzerias.

Several smaller restaurants and chain outlets have closed permanently and other restaurants have suspended operations.
