Another major event canceled: Texas’ biggest wine party shuts down due to coronavirus

The annual GrapeFest wine festival in September has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau announced Monday.

The festival is the largest wine event in the Southwest, drawing 260,000 visitors, the bureau said.

In an announcement, visitors bureau Director Paul W. McCallum said the event was canceled out of “concerns for the safety of attendees, volunteers, staff, sponsors and vendors.”

The event would have been the 34th since its inception in 1987 on historic Main Street in the city near the north end of DFW Airport. It was scheduled Sept. 17-20.

GrapeFest is also a boost for downtown Grapevine restaurants that often see long lines during the festival. It grew more with the addition of TexRail direct commuter train service to and from Main Street during the festival.
