Ashton Depot serving dinners to-go, brunch

Hey, Bud! Is there some sort of restaurant now at Ashton Depot?

—Charlie, Fort Worth

The Ashton Depot, a downtown wedding and reception hall in the beautiful old Santa Fe and Amtrak train station on Jones Street, has been serving Thursday dinners to-go and a monthly Sunday brunch. The July 9 menu featured green chicken enchiladas, and the July 16 menu offers boneless beef short ribs in a cabernet sauce, both with salad and dessert for $20 per person. Sunday brunch ($40) with outdoor and indoor tables returns July 26; book online or at 817-810-9501.

Drew’s, Lucile’s, Babe’s for fried chicken

Hey, Bud! Wasn’t it National Fried Chicken Day?

—Roy, Fort Worth

Yes, I completely missed the opportunity to praise Drew’s Place in Fort Worth, or the sit-down version at Lucile’s Stateside Bistro in Fort Worth, along with local kingpin Babe’s. Near downtown, try the fried chicken at Jesus BBQ Family Restaurant, 810 S. Main St. (I guess there’s a different day for sandwiches and tenders.)

Rolling out the good food

Hey, Bud! What do you think of the restaurants coming out to neighborhoods?

—Shirley, Arlington via facebook.com/diningguy

Restaurant such as Reata have been making dropoffs to suburban cities and neighborhoods, and that’s working well for folks who don’t work downtown anymore and don’t want to drive into the city. Reata delivered chicken enchiladas or fajitas this week in Granbury on Wednesday, the Eagle Mountain Lake area on Thursday and north Arlington on Friday, and other restaurants have similar offers. More, please.
