Fort Worth restaurant reopens after sanitizing, testing due to coronavirus case

The return of La Rueda

Hey, Bud! Why was La Rueda closed the other day?

—Grace, Fort Worth

La Rueda Restaurant, 2317 Oakland Blvd., is a happy cafe where breakfast platters meet Tex-Mex enchiladas and steaks. It’s open again now after closing a few days for sanitizing, deep cleaning and testing because a worker came down sick with COVID-19. The Villagomez family posted regular updates on Facebook. (Many restaurant workers and at least one restaurateur have come down sick, but as far as I know only El Paseo, La Rueda and the Zoli’s in Addison have talked openly.)

If you go out, take care of Dad

Hey, Bud! I’m driving by my fave usual Sunday brunch spots and I see all the mask-less masses waiting for tables. The Strokes’ “Bad Decisions” comes on the radio.

This was in the midweek Eats Beat preview for Father’s Day. If you go out, Dad needs a patio table about 6 feet away from strangers, and personal single-use paper menu and condiments. I look for restaurants where servers wear masks, but they’re not mandatory. (If he’s older than 65, bring him takeout.)

Bring Dad home a family pack

Hey, Bud! Are restaurants still selling family packs?

—Ernie, Arlington

Yes — those will continue all summer on most menus. For example, the Houston-based Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille location in Grapevine has a $150 Father’s Day family pack with grilled salmon, redfish, chicken Oscar and prime rib. Blue Mesa Grill has a take-home family-style Sunday brunch for $65 for four people, or $18 each. Bonnell’s continues its nightly $40 family packs for four, including Sunday night. If you just want brisket, Riscky’s Bar-B-Q has a buy-one-get-one-free special on whole briskets for $19.95/pound).
