Here’s where to find Parker County peach frozen custard. (And new dairy-free desserts)
The move to dairy-free milk products now includes frozen custard.
Curly’s Frozen Custard, 4017 Camp Bowie Blvd., has added almond-milk custard, concretes and sundaes for a cholesterol-free ice cream dessert.
That’s not the only news at Curly’s.
It’s also Parker County peach custard season, so the drive-thru line of cars sometimes wraps around the corner for cones or cups.
The new almond-milk custard has 90 calories per order, less than half the regular vanilla, and only 1 gram of saturated fat.
It makes frozen desserts a real option for those avoiding milk products or simply reducing sweets.
(I checked the nutritional information against a store-bought almond-milk ice cream. Curly’s was actually lower in calories and saturated fat.)
The new option puts Curly’s a step ahead of chain ice cream shops and fast-food drive-thru sundaes. The best-known local destination for dairy-free ice cream is Melt Ice Creams, which offers several flavors.
Curly’s almond-milk custard replaced a sugar-free dairy custard.
If you’re new to Curly’s, it offers five sundaes, eight concretes (like Blizzards), and regular custard in vanilla, chocolate, lemon and two monthly flavors, currently peach and strawberry.
Curly’s also serves Nathan’s Famous hot dogs and chili dogs on artisan buns, local Deen Meat Co. chili and Frito pies, all in a safe drive-thru.
Curly’s is open daily from 11 a.m. It’s near the Cultural District; 817-763-8700, curlysfrozencustard.com.
