Add Lee’s to list of black-owned restaurants. (And hip-hop is off Hot Box’s menu.)
Lee’s Bar-B-Q near Alliance belongs on list
Hey, Bud! If you’re ever in north Fort Worth, make sure you stop at Lee’s Hickory Smoked Bar-B-Q in Haslet. Black-owned business for 31 years.
—@BrentFool on Twitter
Clarence Lee’s barbecue restaurant, 103 School House Road, made the first Texas Monthly state top 50 in 2003 for its hickory meats and thin, gentle sauce. Before 407BBQ opened, Lee’s was the place to go near Alliance. (@BrentFool added Lee’s to the list of great black-owned restaurants like Belzoni’s Catfish in White Settlement, Rosako’s in Bedford, Drew’s fried chicken, Carpenter’s, Nana’s Kitchen, Madea’s in Everman and barbecue restaurants like Jube’s, Robinson’s, Sausage Shoppe & Smoke-A-Holics.
Good Luck Drive In has $7.99 smoked chickens
Hey, Bud! You listed Good Luck Drive In as a black-owned restaurant. It’s not.
—Several readers on Twitter
I mistakenly shared that from another list elsewhere. But the 50-year-old Good Luck’s $3.59 smoked chicken plate and $7.99 special for a whole smoked chicken (weekends only) serve the entire Fort Worth community well. Stop in for hot links or a foot-long chili dog; 900 W. Rosedale St. (The same owner also has the affordable Hemphill’s Restaurant, 3508 Hemphill St.)
Hot Box revises menu after online reaction
Hey, Bud! Should you say something about Hot Box Biscuit Club?
—George, Fort Worth
Hot Box Biscuit Club, a contemporary biscuit sandwich restaurant and bar in South Main Village, has revised its slangy menu to remove African American cultural references and hip-hop lingo after they became a focus for online comments. The restaurant owners promised on Facebook to be “more mindful” after first clumsily responding to a customer that the menu was “none of your concern.” (Whether it’s your menu or your Facebook replies, don’t write anything you wouldn’t want to see shared.)
