Here’s a top-rated Fort Worth barbecue restaurant that takes your order online
Off the Bone BBQ used to be our No. 1 barbecue restaurant, and it hasn’t slipped.
It’s just that newer and better barbecue restaurants have opened in the 15 years since the Browns opened Off the Bone, 5144 Mansfield Highway.
But the pork ribs remain stellar, and the garlicky sausage is impressive.
The online ordering and drive-thru window both make it an easy stop off Loop 820 near Interstate 20.
In 2010, Off the Bone put Forest Hill on the map when it was ranked Dallas-Fort Worth’s No. 1 barbecue in a 2010 D Magazine roundup. That was written by now-Texas Monthly barbecue editor Daniel Vaughn, the “BBQ Snob.”
“These thick, meaty ribs aren’t the grocery store version with barely any meat on the bones,” Vaughn wrote then. “The meat is rosy, with amazing smoky flavor.”
The ribs ($14.75 dinner, $15.95 pound) were every bit as good one day this week, and a comparison of past photos showed that Off the Bone did not appear to have changed its generous portion sizes or quality one bit.
The pineapple-raisin slaw is a surprise, too. The side dishes aren’t an afterthought, and the peach cobbler is always a must-try.
There’s also a stuffed baked potato for $9.75 (with chopped brisket) or as a larger “triple stuff” ($11.25).
Newer items include a mac-and-cheese stuffed baked potato ($11.75) and a “horse shoe” surrounded by ribs ($11.75).
Off the Bone also has family packs with two pounds of meats ($47.95) or three pounds ($58.95).
