Where’d breakfast crowds go? Morning diners slow returning to Fort Worth restaurants

Breakfast restaurants need your help

Hey, Bud! I go out to breakfast a lot. The breakfast restaurants are still not very busy. Think that’ll ever pick up?

—Roland, Fort Worth

Two categories of restaurants are having the most trouble coming back: (1) downtown restaurants, because so many workers nationwide are not going into work, and (2) breakfast restaurants, for the same reason. If you love your local breakfast and lunch counters like West Side Cafe, Vickery Blvd. Cafe, Joe’s Coffee Shop, River Oaks Cafe or the Paris Coffee Shop, get a take-out breakfast or drop by sometime. (Theresa’s/Dixie House now reopens June 1.)

Arlington rallying around local restaurants

Hey, Bud! What about Arlington?

—Everybody in Arlington

Arlington is actually having a “Restaurant Rally” June 4-7 to rally support for the city’s eclectic small restaurants. Residents are asked to order takeout or dine out at least once a day that weekend at restaurants like the historic Candlelite Inn, old favorite J. Gilligan’s Bar & Grill, burger hangout J.R. Bentley’s English Pub or newer downtown restaurants like Grease Monkey Burgers or Hurtado Barbecue. Find more at https://downtownarlington.org/events/rally.

Always looking for a good deal

Hey, Bud! You tweeted an ad from Travelzoo.com. Are you running ads for them? —Brian, Arlington

I’m paid only by the Star-Telegram. Like all of us, I’m just always on the lookout for a good price and a good deal. When I see one, I tell readers. (And before you ask, we pay our way for all food and drink. Federal Trade Commission rules require disclosing online if you’re either paid or comped.)
