Burger & BBQ ideas for a very different Memorial Day in the Fort Worth area

Picnic carefully this weekend

Hey, Bud! What are we supposed to do about Memorial Day? Are picnics OK?

—Roy, Fort Worth

Picnics with your own household are great. If you picnic next to other friends or family, keep a distance. It’s a good weekend to take home barbecue from somewhere like Heim Barbecue, Hurtado, 407BBQ, BBQ on the Brazos or one of the many good places around Everman or Rendon. (In Fort Worth, Grace has been selling a home grilling pack of its heralded cheddar burgers. The order deadline has passed, but check at 817-877-3388 or just order Grace burgers to go.)

Love Shack opens Friday

Hey, Bud! Can you believe Tim Love went to the White House?

—Phyllis, Fort Worth

Not sure how you meant that, but it’s great for Fort Worth, and he’s a good spokesman for the city. He’s raised charity to provide 10,000 meals, and he’s still selling “Bring Love Home” heat-and-serve dinner packs for two or four people, delivered (see cheftimlove.com). And there are few hard-times meals better than a Woodshed Smokehouse smoked baked potato ($5) and borracho beans ($5). It’s open Memorial Day, along with the Love Shack and Gemelle.

A list longer than a CVS receipt

Hey, Bud! To support local restaurants, why not publish a list of Arlington restaurants open for dine-in service?

—@Frankster1044 on Twitter (to @EatsBeat)

Wish I could. But first of all, takeout or patio dining are still safer for a lot of people. Restaurants should be no more than half full. In a county like Tarrant, with 2.1 million people and 4,000 restaurants, a list would be a huge task. The fortworth.com and arlington.org tourist websites do a great job.
