Another Crockett Row restaurant closes, leaving a big vacancy in the West 7th district

Cork & Pig Tavern, an anchor restaurant in the troubled Crockett Row development, will not reopen, owner Felipe Armenta said Monday.

Three other Armenta restaurants — Pacific Table, Press Cafe and The Tavern — remain open, along with a Cork and Pig in Las Colinas.

When chef Virginia Dalbeck opened Cork & Pig in 2016 on the corner of Crockett and Currie streets, the development was mostly restaurants and retail. Since then, newer restaurants and bars cater more to drinkers and less to customers looking for a chef-driven menu.

Cork & Pig did not stay open for take-out last month because the Crockett Street location didn’t allow for easy curbside pickup, Armenta said at the time.

Cork & Pig replaced the ill-starred AF+B, which went through a series of concepts and chefs before opening.

“It’s sad, but we lasted almost five years,” Armenta wrote in a message.

In the 2016 Star-Telegram review, Cork & PIg was praised for its braised short rib, ahi tuna burger, pizzas and tres leches cake.

But Cork & Pig never quite gained the following of Pacific Table or The Tavern, which have similar menus, except for the pizza. And several other pizza restaurants are nearby.

Several other Crockett Row businesses have yet to reopen under the new state health codes to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Three nearby bars served last weekend but closed after Fort Worth officers gave them warnings not to open, a city code enforcement official said. None was part of the Crockett Row development.
