There’s a deal in the works for Roy Pope Grocery

Hey, Bud! I hear rumors that someone bought Roy Pope Grocery. Do you know?

There’s a contract with a Fort Worth developer for the 77-year-old neighborhood meat market and grocery at 2300 Merrick St., but the deal isn’t final yet. The hope is that it’ll be updated and reopened.

Fred’s Texas Cafe North is back

Hey, Bud! Did Fred’s Texas Cafe close? I’m so sad.

The Fred Burger is back! Fred’s North reopened this week for take-out at 2730 Western Center Blvd. (No word yet on the Currie Street location.)

Cork & Pig latest to leave Crockett Row

Hey, Bud! Wait a minute — Cork & Pig Tavern closed?

So far, Cork & Pig Tavern is the biggest name to close after the coronavirus shutdown. (Since Cork & Pig opened, Crockett Row has become mainly a bar hangout.) Corporate cousins Pacific Table, Press Cafe and The Tavern have all reopened.

Mansfield loses two chicken-fried steak cafes

Hey, Bud! Did Joe’s Coffee Shop in Mansfield close?

Mansfield lost two plate-lunch cafes over the break. Joe’s closed, but locations in Watauga and Irving remain open. And Dixie House Cafe gave up an impractical location on Farm Road 1187. Dixie House locations remain open in east Fort Worth, southwest Fort Worth and Saginaw. (The East Belknap Street flagship is being remodeled.)
