Updated: Here’s the list of what’s open for Mother’s Day, both dine-in and take-out
Mother’s Day is for families this year, and hope and love.
Expect fewer lavish brunches. And more family meal deals.
Some restaurants will be serving Mother’s Day brunch in their social-distanced dining rooms.
But it’s also graduation weekend. So whether you’re booking brunch Saturday or Sunday, book now.
Take-out is the better deal, for two reasons:
▪ No more than six people can sit together in a restaurant,
▪ If Mom’s older than 65 or at-risk, or if she doesn’t live with you, definitely do not take her out.
Here’s a look at the early offers, with more to come (check star-telegram.com/eatsbeat for updates):
▪ Bird Café, 155 E. Fourth St, is serving both a take-out brunch “Mother Load” and also has dining room service with limited seating.
The “Mother Load” menu offers a huge brunch for four or six people ($55-$75).
The pack includes: chicken biscuits, peach-cinnamon French toast, pimiento cheese omelets and yogurt with berries.
It’s also available inside Bird, but book now and expect a wait. Sitting outside is better, but all seating is limited.
Order online or book by phone; 817-332-2473, birdinthe.net
.
▪ In Grapevine, the legendary Willhoite’s Restaurant and patio reopened with limited seating and will serve its famous $16 weekly Sunday brunch buffet.
The only change: Staffers will be serving all the food. (No handling utensils.)
The only drawback to Willhoite’s is the smoking, but the restaurant has banned that this weekend. I’d still try for a patio table.
Go very early or expect a long wait. The buffet opens at 11 a.m.; 432 S. Main St., Grapevine, 817-481-7511, willhoites.com.
▪ Blue Mesa Grill, 612 Carroll St., is serving its $20 Mother’s Day brunch either in-person with limited seating, or to go with orders in advance.
The to-go pack is slightly cheaper: $75 for four people. The menu features enchiladas, tacos, fajita chicken salad and breakfast items like eggs with poblanos and cinnamon-French toast casserole.
Pick up Saturday or Sunday; 817-332-6372, bluemesagrill.com.
▪ Lili’s Bistro’s Mother’s Day menu offers a choice of $29 frittatas serving six to 10 people — either a Southern frittata with biscuits and sausage; a seafood frittata with shrimp, lobster and crab; or a veggie frittata.
There’s also an 8-inch sandwich ($29) that serves six people. Choose either a ham-eggs-and-brie breakfast sandwich, an Italian sandwich or a muffuletta.
