Eats Beat

Yes, there’s still a (sort of) line for BBQ at these stands, and another is reopening

Hey, Bud! Is this a good time to beat the line and get barbecue?

—Chuck, Fort Worth

Stunningly, but some barbecue stands still have (social-distanced) lines. Hurtado Barbecue in Arlington has been selling out after lunch, and Panther City BBQ is as busy as ever. Goldee’s Barbecue south of Kennedale reopens Saturday, or try Derek Allan’s in the hospital district or Dayne’s Craft Barbecue or Heim on the west side. (Angelo’s is still offering its $3 chopped brisket special — get it on dark bread from the drive-through and stay in your car.)

Hey, Bud What do you think about take-out and delivery? I’m a little nervous about it.

—Matthew, Fort Worth

Cooked food is safe. Reheat it if you’re concerned. Wash your hands after handling packaging, again before you handle food and again before you eat. Consider wearing a mask if you go out for pickup (and don’t go out if you’re older than 65 or have other conditions). Having said all that — order more take-out. It’s better than ever, and at bargain prices.

Hey, Bud! Are there any dinner deals for two people? All the family dinner packs are for four.

—Elizabeth, Hurst

We’ve found that take-out portions are large and a single dinner can easily be split, or a “dinner for two” can split and cover another day. Buffalo West, Hunter Brothers H3 Ranch, Istanbul Grill, Saint-Émilion and Waters are among restaurants serving dinner-for-two specials, and Capital Grille and Eddie V’s have them for Easter.
