Four meals for four nights: This Fort Worth chef goes family-style in a big way
It didn’t take restaurants long to figure out how to keep customers in tough times.
Step 1: Give diners a good deal.
For example, some restaurants are offering take-home family dinners for $40 or less.
One restaurateur is offering even more — and for less.
Lonesome Dove Western Bistro chef Tim Love’s family dinner special serves not one night’s family dinner, but four dinners each night for four nights.
The price is $150 for four nights of family dinners — $9 per dinner. Delivered.
And the money goes to a benefit fund for workers who lost jobs to coronavirus layoffs.
If you were planning to give $150 to a charity supporting out-of-work restaurant employees, here’s a way to donate and celebrate with four dinners.
The menu is impressive.
You get to choose four of eight dinners including beef tenderloin, pork tenderloin, lemon baked chicken and simpler dishes such as chiles rellenos, pork tacos, baked ziti, veggie lasagna or veggie fajitas. Each comes with a side dish.
A few warnings: You have to order about three days ahead. You can only order online. And if you choose delivery, you need to be home between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. — the driver will knock or ring your doorbell, but will leave to avoid contact.
“We wanted to design something ... that was fitting for families and also allowed them to stay home,” Love said in a forwarded statement.
Delivery allows families to focus on having a meal together, he said: “The one thing you need most is your family.”.
(I’ve written about drive-through and carry-out dining here, and that’s fine. But relaxing and having food delivered safely by employees of the restaurant is good, too.)
Love said all the money will go to the lunch program he has started to feed those in need, including laid-off restaurant workers.
“The delivery took off like crazy and people started wanting to donate to the program,” he said. “It’s amazing what happens when you focus on giving.”
There’s also a selection of wines and cocktails.
To order, go to cheftimlove.com/bring-love-home. The food can be picked up at the Tim Love Catering office, 713 N. Main St., 817-624-9712.
▪ One of Love’s restaurants, the contemporary Italian pizzeria named Gemelle, is also open at dinner nightly serving only a choice of three pizzas for $13-$15 and a double-sized Caesar ($14).
Gemelle is at 4400 White Settlement Road; 817-732-9535, gemelleftw.com.
