Eats Beat

A taco fave reopens, but a burger legend closed. And here’s a $5.99 enchilada special

Stay home, stay safe, eat local

Hey, Bud! We want to eat local. What are the local restaurants with take-out or delivery?

—Mike, Fort Worth

I try to write about them here. About half are open — the long list is at fortworth.com. In particular, I’ve tried to focus on specials — Bobby V’s 2-for-$25 steak dinners, for example, or Piola’s $10.95 Italian dinners and El Fenix’s and Pulido’s enchilada specials for $5.99-$6.99. I’ve also listed locally owned drive-throughs like Boo-Rays of New Orleans, the Dive Burger Bar and Zeke’s Fish & Chips.

Fred’s is taking a break ...

Hey, Bud! What happened to Fred’s Texas Cafe?

—Karen, Fort Worth

Terry Chandler, Paul Ellis and Quincy Wallace decided to take a break for a few months. A few things were already changing before the coronavirus recession. I imagine Fred’s will be back in some form, although I’m not sure when.

... but Yucatán Tequila is back

Hey, Bud! Is Yucatán Taco open again?

—Darinda, Fort Worth

Yucatán Tequila Bar & Grill opened this week at 909 W. Magnolia Ave., with a new owner, new equipment and a new look for the former taco hangout. I hear the nachos recipe is close to the same, and I’ll try it by next week.
