30% off? 20 tacos for $20? Restaurants adjust to carry-out dining with bargain deals
Restaurants offered deep discounts and contactless delivery Wednesday as they began what might be days or weeks of to-go-only service.
Emails and social-media ads promoting 30% discounts and special family-style deals went out almost as soon as county and city officials finalized rules suspending dining-room service and closing bars.
Some fast-food restaurants with drive-through lanes had cars lined up around the building. One, Hurley House in Fort Worth, reported selling a week’s worth of food in two days.
Both Dallas-based Campisi’s Restaurant and St. Louis-based Panera Bread are promoting completely contactless delivery, the most recommended form of delivery. The food is dropped off at the diner’s front door to maintain a safe distance.
The Dallas-based Corner Bakery Cafe chain offered 30% off the entire menu to its email subscribers.
Curly’s Frozen Custard, a drive-through hot dog and custard stand at 4017 Camp Bowie Blvd., is offering 25% off through Saturday.
A north Fort Worth taqueria, Tres Betos, 2418 N.E. 28th St., is offering 20 breakfast or lunch tacos for $20.
Fine-dining restaurants also rushed to adjust.
Chef Jon Bonnell announced that he will reopen his upscale restaurants, Bonnell’s and Waters, on Saturday with new menus serving $40 dinners to serve a family of four.
Chef Tim Love closed his four restaurants and instead is offering a deal to benefit those in need: four heat-and-serve dinners for $150, each big enough to feed four people. The choices are tenderloin, smoked pork loin, roast chicken, roasted chiles rellenos, veggie fajitas, pulled pork tacos, veggie lasagna or baked ziti.
Paris 7th, a French restaurant from the owners of Saint-Émilion, offered takeout dinners for two people such as beef bourguignon, Moroccan roast chicken or coq au vin.
