Sky-high nachos, grits and plenty of Nolan Ryan beef on Texas Rangers’ new food menu
Arlington is the holy temple of nachos, and Globe Life Field takes them into the 21st century.
It’s only been 44 years since city concessionaires in the Texas Rangers’ stadium were the first anywhere to serve “ballpark nachos.”
Back then, they poured a dollop of cheese sauce and jalapenos over a basket of restaurant chips.
Now, “The Stack!” supersizes nachos with a nearly foot-high tower of tostadas, smoked pulled pork, Fort Worth-made Texas Chili and the same original Rico’s cheese and peppers.
It was the tallest of several concession foods previewed for reporters Wednesday but far from the strangest.
The Rangers’ 21st-century concessions menu includes rattlesnake sausage, a Nolan Ryan chili dog with cheese grits and a full vegan menu, including mac-and-plant-based-cheese (cashew paste) and vegan corny dogs topped it with a heap of jalapenos.
“It’s all an extension of the Ballpark — we’re building on what we’ve served here through history,” said Casey Rapp, the stadium-based general manager for Buffalo-based concessionaire Delaware North.
Sure, there’s nachos and hot dogs.
But there’s also Richardson-based Golden Chick fillet sandwiches with Zing sauce, Austin-based Pluckers wings and in-house mesquite-smoked Nolan Ryan brisket egg rolls with Sweet Baby Ray’s sauce.
(Yes, Nolan Ryan brisket egg rolls. The burgers, hot dogs and brisket and all Nolan Ryan beef.)
“We’re thrilled to have these Texas companies partnering here with us,” Rapp said.
Notably, prices were not announced Wednesday.
They’ll be comparable to current prices, Rapp said.
