Fort Worth gains 4-star burger grill as Wizards Burgers moves from Dallas’ Oak Cliff
Just when tricked-out burgers were getting boring, along comes Wizards Burgers Brews & More.
Dallas’ loss is southwest Fort Worth’s gain with Wizards. The restaurant moved its burgers, menu and 4-star ratings from Oak Cliff to a neighborhood shopping center at 3951 Sycamore School Road.
Wizards opened in Dallas last year under the name Big Mouth Burgers. It drew instant Dallas fame, but that name was already taken by Chili’s.
So, Rohn Korman moved his burger-salad-and-cake grill to a vacant Fort Worth retail space facing West Cleburne Road, 2 miles east of the Chisholm Trail Parkway.
Wizards’ 11 burgers have names like the “Big Hoss” (with a ¾-pound patty), the “Hot Damm” (with hot-pepper jelly and jalapeno strips), the “Californian” (with spinach, avocado and smoked gouda) or the “GenZapata” with chorizo, jalapenos, pico de gallo and queso fresco.
No overthought burgers with peanut butter or weird toppings here. Every burger is all about the beef — a simple 80% lean with house seasoning, Korman said.
The menu also includes a Philly cheesesteak made with queso, an Italian sausage sandwich, a grilled chicken-provolone sandwich and a “Cluck” fried chicken sandwich with house hot sauce and ranch dressing.
The onion rings are bracelet-sized.
Unlike most burger grills this good, Wizards actually also has a presentable selection of salads.
A Thai grilled chicken salad came with mandarin oranges, cilantro and a light Thai dressing. Theres also a Caesar with homemade dressing, a Cobb salad and a chicken fajita salad.
Everything is the same price: $10.50. (The burgers include a choice of fresh-cut fries, mac-and-cheese or spicy creamed corn.
There’s also a tempting selection of cakes in flavors such as strawberry, carrot or yellow.
Wizards Burgers Brews & More is open for lunch and dinner daily.
