No reservations? Here’s where to go Valentine’s Day. (Including a sweet surprise.)
Waffles for your sweetheart
Hey, Bud! Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t you once recommend Waffle House for Valentine’s?
—Stuart at a civic club talk
It wasn’t a date recommendation. But I did go to the Waffle House in Benbrook once on Valentine’s and it was cute — red tablecloths, blackout curtains and red lighting. Locally, the special Valentine steak dinners are only at three locations: 1910 N. Collins St. in north Arlington, 1425 Brown Trail in Bedford and 8505 Benbrook Blvd. in Benbrook.
Mancuso’s never fails
Hey, Bud! I waited too late to make a Valentine’s Day reservation. Where can I go?
—More than one reader
Mancuso’s Italian, 9500 White Settlement Road off Loop 820 in west Fort Worth, is serving first-come, first-served all day, with a legacy menu of old-school pastas with rich sauces. (If you’re willing to pay the price, Fleming’s in Plano has $500 and $1,000 couples dinner packages including David Yurman jewelry and a guaranteed reservation.)
Big move ahead for Little Germany
Hey, Bud! I thought Little Germany was moving to Camp Bowie Boulevard? Can’t wait for good German food.
—Stephanie, Fort Worth
Little Germany will serve Valentine’s Day lunch and dinner at 703 N. Henderson St. but will move later this month to its new location, 6737 Camp Bowie Blvd. (That’s three blocks from Edelweiss, where Little Germany’s owners learned cooking under former owner Bernd Schnerzinger.)
