Eats Beat

This is the best view in Fort Worth. But you’ll have to wait to see it

Sinclair Hotel steakhouse is open, but no rooftop cafe yet

Hey, Bud! I thought that rooftop restaurant was opening in the Sinclair Hotel? I was looking forward to it.

—Veronica, Fort Worth

You’ll have to wait till spring. The rooftop will start opening then if it’s a really pretty day. The menu is short, but the bar has a sensational 360-degree view of Fort Worth. The Wicked Butcher prime steakhouse downstairs is now open.

Heim BBQ Love Field opens in June. And there’s a history

Hey, Bud! I saw where Heim Barbecue is opening in Dallas. What was that location before?

—Randy, Fort Worth

Lately, it’s been Mockingbird Diner. Years ago, the site was a Denny’s on Mockingbird Lane near Love Field. It’s even mentioned as a bookie’s hangout in the Warren Commission report on the Kennedy assassination. (The new Heim opens in June.)

Bar Louie or Bore Louie? West 7th location was just OK

Hey, Bud! What happened to Bar Louie? It was always busy.

—Steve, Fort Worth

Bar Louie was OK, and I liked the old $1 burger night. But it seemed dull and corporate, and it never successfully sold the idea of being a chef-driven gastropub. The Hurst location closed, too, but an Arlington location continues.
